Corporate Taxation

At present a team of 20 lawyers at Mannheimer Swartling work exclusively with providing tax advice on complex tax issues. This makes us unique among law firms – research by Chambers Europe, European Legal 500, International Tax Review and Law Business Research and others demonstrates that we are regularly considered one of Sweden’s best tax advisors with competition only from some accountancy firms.

Naturally, we believe that there are many advantages in choosing a law firm instead of an accountancy firm for tax advice. The main advantage is that tax advice cannot be given separately from other legal advice. A transaction that is permissible from a tax law perspective may contravene the provisions of the Companies Act. Not only do we give qualified tax advice but we also ensure that we identify and deal with other issues so that all matters are considered. We are assisted by approximately 410 lawyers within the firm who have expertise in areas such as corporate, securities, mergers and acquisitions, real estate, private equity and financing.

We are often involved in large projects such as mergers and acquisitions, property transactions, incentive schemes and financial transactions. We also give advice on routine tax matters and conduct tax litigation. We often act as a sounding board for in-house lawyers, finance managers and other senior officials that are responsible for our clients’ tax in their day-to-day work.

Since Mannheimer Swartling is independent and not part of a network, we can consult the tax adviser who is best suited to each case in relation to issues regarding foreign tax regulations. We have well-established contacts with the best tax advisers all over the world. This network allows us to deal with issues relating to foreign law in a prompt and efficient manner.

The group's practice includes the following areas:

  • Mergers and Acquisitions
  • Reorganisations
  • IPOs
  • Public offers and other public mergers and acquisitions
  • Other transactions such as sale of properties where there is a significant tax effect
  • Financing solutions
  • Incentive schemes
  • Cross-border leasing
  • Securitisation
  • Transfer pricing
  • Private Equity
  • Tax Litigation and Advance Rulings
