SL enacts an early cancellation of the agreement with MTR for the commuter rail traffic and enters into an agreement with SJ

The Public Transportation Administration in the Stockholm Region (SL) has decided on an early cancellation of the agreement with MTR for the operation of the commuter rail traffic in Stockholm. The continued operation of the commuter rail traffic will be performed by SJ on the basis of a two-year emergency measure agreement pursuant to which SJ will have the comprehensive responsibility for the operation, including traffic operation, maintenance and service. The work to prepare the hand-over of the operation from MTR to SJ will commence immediately.

The commuter rail network comprises 241 km and 54 stations and covers the entire Stockholm region from Gnesta, Södertälje and Nynäshamn in the southern part of the region to Bålsta, Märsta, Arlanda and Uppsala in the northern part. The annual cost of the operation is approximately SEK 2.2 billion.

Mannheimer Swartling advised the Public Transportation Administration in the Stockholm Region (SL).
