Mälardalstrafik enacts an early cancellation of the regional rail traffic agreement with MTR and enters into an agreement with Transdev
Mälardalstrafik MÄLAB Aktiebolag (Mälardalstrafik) has decided on an early cancellation of the agreement with MTR for the operation of the regional rail traffic in the Mälardalen region.
As a consequence of the early cancellation, Mälardalstrafik has entered into a two-year emergency measure agreement with Transdev, pursuant to which Transdev will have the comprehensive responsibility for the operation of the regional rail traffic from the 16th June 2024. The work to prepare the hand-over of the operation from MTR to Transdev will commence immediately.
Mälardalstrafik is responsible for the public sector financed regional rail traffic in the Stockholm-Mälarregion. The traffic covers a geographical area from Linköping in south to Örebro in west, Stockholm in east and Gävle in north. Mälardalstrafik is owned by Region Stockholm, Region Sörmland, Region Uppsala, Region Västmanland, Region Örebro län and Region Östergötland. The traffic had more than twelve (12) million passengers during 2023.
