The Nuclear Power Plants in Barsebäck and Oskarshamn procure dismantling of decommissioned nuclear reactors
Barsebäck Kraft AB and OKG AB have carried out a joint procurement regarding the dismantling, fragmentation, radiological classification and packaging of the decommissioned reactor pressure vehicles no. 1 and 2 in Barsebäck and Oskarshamn. After completion, the dismantled reactor parts will be placed in interim storage pending final disposal by Svensk Kärnbränslehantering AB.
Following a tendering process and negotiations with several suppliers, the contract has been awarded to a consortium formed by a Uniper Group subsidiary and a German nuclear power industry service provider.
The deconstruction of the decommissioned nuclear power reactors in Barsebäck and Oskarshamn is one of the most comprehensive industrial projects in Sweden and have a portfolio value of approximately SEK 10 billion distributed over a number of elements, of which the current contract constitutes a first step. The project is funded by the Nuclear Waste Fund, which in its turn is funded by regular payments from the Swedish nuclear power companies. The dismantling is intended to commence during the spring of 2020 and to be completed in 2024.
Barsebäck Kraft AB and OKG AB was advised by Mannheimer Swartling.
