Videberg Kraft Selects Rolls-Royce SMR for New Nuclear Power Project in Sweden
Videberg Kraft, the nuclear power company jointly owned by Vattenfall and Industrikraft, has selected Rolls-Royce SMR as the supplier for the development of a new nuclear power plant at the Värö Peninsula, adjacent to the Ringhals nuclear power plant.
The project comprises three modular reactors (SMRs), each with an installed capacity of 470 MW. The plant is expected to generate approximately 12 TWh of fossil-free electricity annually, representing a significant contribution to electricity supply in southern Sweden.
The Rolls-Royce SMR concept is based on proven pressurised water reactor (PWR) technology, the same reactor technology currently used at Ringhals. Its industrialised and modular construction approach, under which key components are manufactured and assembled in controlled factory environments before being delivered to the site for installation, is designed to improve efficiency and reduce project execution risk.
Videberg Kraft and Rolls-Royce SMR have entered into a Cooperation Agreement, to which the principal terms for the forthcoming engineering and construction agreements have been appended.
Mannheimer Swartling acted as legal adviser to Vattenfall and Videberg Kraft in the drafting and negotiation of the agreements. The firm’s team included Johan Granehult, Niklas Sjöblom, Carolina Dackö, Jonathan Hörnblad, Isac Nyman and Alice Johansson.
