The Nuclear Power Plants in Barsebäck and Oskarshamn procure treatment of demolition materials
Barsebäck Kraft AB and OKG AB have carried out a joint procurement regarding the treatment of materials demolished, or to be demolished, from the decommissioned nuclear reactors nr. 1 and 2 in Barsebäck and nr. 1 and 2 in Oskarshamn, in order to obtain a safe clearance and recycling process. The treatment includes a combination of decontamination and melting and intends to result in clearance of a large portion of the materials. The materials that are not clearable will be placed in interim storage pending final disposal by Svensk Kärnbränslehantering AB.
Following a tendering process and negotiations, the contract has been awarded to a Swedish subsidiary within the French EDF group.
The deconstruction of the decommissioned nuclear power reactors in Barsebäck and Oskarshamn is one of the most comprehensive industrial projects in Sweden. The project is funded by the Nuclear Waste Fund and have a portfolio value of approximately SEK 10 billion. The supplies of materials are intended to commence shortly and are planned to be completed in 2027.
