Stockholm City Mission will open additional social food stores in collaboration with the grocery industry
Stockholm City Mission will, in collaboration with the grocery industry, open additional social food stores in the Stockholm area.
Mannheimer Swartling has assisted the Stockholm City Mission (Stockholms Stadsmission) in their conclusion of a cooperation agreement with the Swedish Food Retailers Federation (Svensk Dagligvaruhandel) and the Grocery Suppliers of Sweden (Dagligvaruleverantörers Förbund) to expand the Food Mission (Matmissionen), the Stockholm City Mission’s concept for social food stores. The goal is to open a number of additional stores within the framework of the collaboration before July 2022.
The Food Mission counteracts food poverty, as people in financially vulnerable situations have the opportunity to buy food at heavily discounted prices in the social food stores. The expansion of the Food Mission also creates 45 new work training positions and up to 21 new vacant positions, and can save up to 3,000 tonnes of products per year that would otherwise be at risk of being wasted, which corresponds to a climate footprint of 4,700 tonnes of CO2.
