Recent developments regarding the Swedish implementation of the Pay Transparency Directive – new date for implementation

In the latest legislative proposal (the referral to the Council of Legislation), the government proposed that the new legislation would take effect from 1 July 2026, and the latest submission date for the first so-called pay reports to the Equality Ombudsman (DO) would be 20 May 2027. As the final legislative proposal is yet to come, the implementation date has been subject to criticism and the government has now announced that it intends to propose that the new legislation enters into force on 1 January 2027 instead, and that the final date for the first pay reports to be submitted to the DO is changed to 20 May 2028.

The final legislative proposal was expected yesterday (17 March) but no announcement or proposal has been made.
