Mannheimer Swartling hires Joakim Paasikivi as the firm’s first Senior Geopolitical Adviser

Mannheimer Swartling has appointed Joakim Paasikivi as its Senior Geopolitical Adviser. Paasikivi will provide strategic advice to both the firm and its clients on issues such as geopolitics, global security, and security protection issues. Paasikivi will also continue to actively participate in public discussions on these issues.

“We are convinced that Joakim Paasikivi will be in great demand by our clients as the world situation now requires our multinational clients to work intensively with strategic risk management. Joakim will be able to help our clients’ management teams adapt their strategies to global developments through increased geopolitical insight. This can be achieved by, for example, analysing issues relating to domestic and global security, geopolitics, globalisation, and the risks that multinational corporations may face as a result of geopolitical fluctuations” says Jan Dernestam, Managing Partner at Mannheimer Swartling.

“Joakim Paasikivi’s solid and broad knowledge will add another dimension to Mannheimer Swartling’s role as a strategic advisor to the Swedish business community,” continues Jan Dernestam.

“I am excited to join Mannheimer Swartling and look forward to continuing to find innovative ways to integrate strategic geopolitical advice into business development issues within Mannheimer Swartling’s client service”, says Joakim Paasikivi.

Mannheimer Swartling has for many years integrated global economic and social issues into its legal advice. The firm was the first Nordic law firm to hire a Head of Sustainability back in 2014, and in 2017 hired Klas Eklund as the firm’s first Senior Economist.

Joakim Paasikivi was most recently a Lieutenant Colonel at the Swedish Defence University and has previously worked for the Baltic Defence College in Tartu, Estonia, and the Swedish Military Intelligence and Security Service (MUST).
