Mannheimer Swartling acquires Troublemaker

Mannheimer Swartling has acquired the majority of the assets in Troublemaker AB. Troublemaker, founded in 2023 by William Wigström and Emil Wårdh, has developed the AI platform Trubl, which many analysts consider to be the absolute best AI tool for Swedish law and legal investigations.

In connection with the acquisition, Mannheimer Swartling is also hiring Troublemaker’s co-founder, William Wigström, as AI Counsel in the firm’s Innovation Department. William will be responsible for the continued development of both Trubl and the firm’s other AI tools, as well as the firm’s own customised applications to address unique workflow challenges.

Troublemaker was one of eight companies accepted into Mannheimer Swartling’s incubator for legal tech startups, MSA Innovation Lab. Founded already in 2019, MSA Innovation Lab conducts internal digital innovation work and collaborates closely with three researchers from Chalmers University of Technology, Stockholm School of Economics and Lund School of Economics (Charlotta Kronblad, Frida Pemer and Anna Jonsson).

– Over the past year, we have tested all available AI tools for the legal industry, and while several are highly impressive, Troublemaker’s AI tool, Trubl, is revolutionary and in a class of its own. We will now continue to develop Trubl within the firm. Combined with Leya, another fantastic AI solution developed within the framework of MSA Innovation Lab, we will ensure that Mannheimer Swartling continues to lead the digital development of the legal industry, says Jan Dernestam, Managing Partner at Mannheimer Swartling.

– The acquisition of Trubl will enable us to offer our clients even more cost-effective advice. Additionally, we will be able to develop new digital applications, in consultation with our clients, to streamline their own internal legal work, continues Jan Dernestam.
