André Andersson receives the Swedish Bar Association’s award for outstanding contributions to the legal profession

Since 2012, the Swedish Bar Association has recognised outstanding contributions to the legal profession through an annual award. This year, the honour has been given to André Andersson, Senior Adviser at Mannheimer Swartling. The award was presented by Mia Edwall Insulander, Secretary General of the Swedish Bar Association, during the Lawyers’ Days event (Advokatdagarna) held at the Grand Hotel on 26 – 27 October 2023.

This year’s winner is recognised for his outstanding contributions to the legal profession – combining his skills as one of Sweden’s foremost financial lawyers with his dedication to legal research and teaching. In 2017, this year’s winner was awarded an honorary doctorate in law from Stockholm University. He has demonstrated a remarkable commitment to international relations – strengthening ties between Swedish lawyers and the international legal community. Moreover, his genuine enthusiasm for and involvement in pro bono work has contributed to an advanced understanding of the crucial role that lawyers serve in our legal society.”

The award includes a donation of SEK 100,000 from the Swedish Bar Association to a pro bono project of the winner’s choice. André has requested that the prize money be donated to the Stockholm City Mission (Stockholms Stadsmission), where it will be used to support their work in advocating for the rights of homeless people and engagement with public authorities. André is Vice Chairman of the Stockholm City Mission, and Mannheimer Swartling regularly supports the organisation with pro bono legal advice.

“I am happy and proud to receive this award” says André. “I am also happy and proud to have been part of a law firm for 36 years that has always supported and encouraged my commitment to causes close to my heart. As a Senior Adviser, I can dedicate even more time to the Stockholm City Mission and the Stockholm Centre for Commercial Law, while continuing my work at the firm. I have every confidence that this will also contribute to making Mannheimer Swartling an even better law firm and attractive place to work.”
