Implementation of the Pay Transparency Directive

The Pay Transparency Directive was adopted in May 2023 and must be implemented by June 7, 2026. The directive aims to strengthen the application of the principle of equal pay for women and men for equal or equivalent work (the equal pay principle), including by increasing transparency in pay setting, establishing minimum requirements for the framework prohibiting pay discrimination, and tightening compliance mechanisms.

The investigation will, based on the Swedish labor market model, the autonomy of labor market parties, and the systematic approach of the Discrimination Act (2008:567), determine what is required to implement the Pay Transparency Directive in Sweden. The investigation’s proposals should, as far as possible, maintain the Swedish regulatory system and not include other measures or legislative proposals than those necessary to implement the directive.
