Tramway to be established in Uppsala

Uppsala Municipality and Region Uppsala (which is responsible for public transport in Uppsala County) are jointly implementing a project to establish a tramway in Uppsala. The tramway will have a total track length of approximately 17 km with double tracks along the entire route. The project also includes the procurement of vehicles for the traffic, a depot for vehicle maintenance and the operation of the traffic. Traffic is planned to start in 2029.

The investment cost of the tramway, including the depot for trams, is estimated at just over SEK 9 billion at cost level for 2024, excluding vehicle costs. The vehicle cost is estimated at approximately SEK 4.3 billion over an initial period of thirty (30) years from the start of traffic.

The project is co-financed by Uppsala Municipality and Region Uppsala as well as by the Swedish state through, among other things, financing via urban environment agreements (Sw. stadsmiljöavtal).

Mannheimer Swartling is advising Uppsala Municipality and Region Uppsala in the project, including with respect to the agreements entered into between Uppsala Municipality and Region Uppsala regarding the project.
