Minimising our impact on the environment and climate has been our priority for many years. We are proud to have a high level of staff engagement in achieving our goals and addressing areas for continuous improvement. This is anchored by our internal Climate Group, which includes representatives from all our offices and business areas, as well as the firm’s Board of Directors.

In 2021, we joined the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), committing the firm to set scientifically based targets in accordance with the objectives of the Paris Agreement – to limit global warming to well below 2°C and pursue efforts to limit it to 1.5°C. In 2022, our targets were independently assessed and approved by SBTi. The firm’s commitment is to more than halve our carbon footprint by 2030.

Each year, we conduct annual climate accounting with the help of leading external specialists. Our focus areas for reducing emissions are capacity building, travel and transport, procurement of goods and services, and energy consumption. Our primary goal is emissions reduction, but as a complementary measure we also offset remaining emissions in a Gold Standard project.

We are a member of the NZLA network to mobilise lawyers and law firms to accelerate the transition to net zero. We address our own climate impact and support clients by embedding climate-conscious advice through all practice areas. As part of this, we are committed to reducing the carbon footprint of our arbitration work by following the guiding principles of the Campaign for Greener Arbitrations.

We were also among the first in the legal industry to adopt an environmental policy and to certify our Swedish offices under the ISO 14001 environmental management standard – a foundation that continues to guide our progress today.
