Proposal for implementation of the Platform Directive from the Swedish Government Official Reports
The EU Platform Directive was adopted in October 2024. The directive aims to improve working conditions and personal data protection in platform work. The Swedish Government Official Reports’ assignment has been to propose how the directive should be implemented in Sweden.
The Swedish Government Official Reports proposes a new law: the Platform Work Act. The Act contains, among other things, provisions on when a person performing platform work is to be considered an employee. The Act also contains provisions on algorithmic management, i.e. management that takes place through or with the support of automated data systems. These provisions are intended to contribute to greater transparency in how automated monitoring and decision-making systems are used, but also to provide new opportunities to challenge decisions made or supported by such systems.
