Procurement of new night trains for the traffic between Stockholm and Narvik

The Swedish Transport Administration is a Swedish authority which is responsible for the long-term infrastructure planning for road traffic, rail traffic, shipping, and aviation and for the construction and operation of state roads and railways in Sweden.

Within its assignment, the Swedish Transport Administration is also responsible for ensuring certain procured train traffic and for ensuring access to rolling stock and other infrastructure required for such train traffic. The railway traffic for which the Swedish Transport Administration is responsible is of great importance for Sweden’s infrastructure and includes the night train traffic between Stockholm and upper Norrland.

The Swedish Transport Administration has decided to procure new night trains (rolling stock) for the traffic between Stockholm and Narvik. In addition to the delivery of vehicles, the procurement includes a ten-year maintenance commitment. The vehicle procurement includes 10 locomotives and 91 carriages, with an estimated value of SEK 5.5 billion. The operation of the new vehicles will be commenced between 2028 and 2030.
