Mannheimer Swartling advises on financing for Stockholm Exergi’s carbon capture facilities

Mannheimer Swartling has advised certain lenders in connection with the financing of Stockholm Exergi’s operations and Stockholm Exergi’s investment decision to build one of the world’s largest facilities for removing carbon dioxide (Beccs Stockholm). The plant is expected to be operational in 2028 and will be located at the energy port near Värtaverket in Stockholm. The investment amounts to SEK 13 billion.

When completed, the facility will capture and store up to 800,000 tonnes of CO₂ per year – more than the emissions from Stockholm’s road traffic over the same period. The investment is made possible by a combination of funding from the EU Innovation Fund, Swedish government aid and revenue from the private market.
