Mannheimer Swartling Art Scholarship

Mannheimer Swartling’s art scholarship is awarded for the first time and is granted to Alden Jansson from the Royal Institute of Art in Stockholm. The award recognises and supports artistic talent among graduating students from master’s programmes at Sweden’s leading art academies.

This year’s scholarship recipient, Alden Jansson, impressed the jury with the ability to develop a visual language that challenges and captivates, reimagining traditional materials with great sensitivity and craftsmanship.

The art scholarship is a newly established annual award granted to a selected graduate from master’s programmes at Sweden’s foremost art academies. This year, the selection was made from students at the Royal Institute of Art’s graduation exhibition for the Master of Fine Arts programme.

“It’s a pleasure to highlight a young artist whose work is both moving and thought-provoking. We value the opportunity to support artistic practice from a relatively early career stage and look forward to following Alden’s creative journey,” says Daniel Khayyami.

“At its core, all our cultural collaborations are about contributing to the existence of culture on its own terms. As a law firm, we believe that the rule of law presupposes a free cultural life, and with this scholarship we particularly want to promote the regeneration of the arts,” says Fredrik Ringquist.

“Our students being recognised by people from outside the art world is inspiring and important. It creates new spaces for artistic thinking and strengthens the bridges between education, culture and society,” says Sanne Kofod Olsen, Vice-Chancellor at the Royal Institute of Art.

The scholarship recipient was selected by a jury consisting of:

  • Tinni Ernsjöö Rappe, Executive Director at SSE Art Initiative and Literary Agenda (Stockholm School of Economics)
  • Oscar Carlson, curator and founder of Issues Gallery
  • Charlotte Lund, art advisor
  • Fredrik Ringquist, partner at Mannheimer Swartling
  • Daniel Khayyami, partner at Mannheimer Swartling

The scholarship is awarded within the framework of MSA Arts – an initiative launched by Mannheimer Swartling in 2023. MSA Arts promotes creativity, innovation, learning and reflection, and encourages the firm’s employees and other participants to express themselves and connect in new ways. The initiative spans multiple art forms – from visual art to music and literature – and includes recurring activities, artist collaborations, and partnerships with leading cultural institutions.

The photograph of Alden’s artwork was taken by Jean-Baptiste Béranger.
