SL outsources comprehensive Stockholm regional transport assignment to Nobina
The Stockholm Public Transport Authority (Sw. Storstockholms Lokaltrafik, “SL”) has, following the completion a public procurement process, entered into an agreement with Nobina to outsource the operation of public bus transport in the Stockholm regions of Handen, Nynäshamn and Tyresö. The contract runs for a maximum of ten years and the contract value is estimated at nearly SEK 5 billion over the initial eight-year period. According to the agreeement, the operator Nobina will be compensated by SL exclusively based on the verified number of passengers travelling in the area.
SL, part of the Stockholm County Council, has the overall responsibility to ensure all who visit or live in the municipality of Stockholm have access to extensive, accessible and reliable public transport and is tasked to plan, procure, manage, develop and promote public transport in the region.
Nobina-Group is the largest bus passenger transport company in the Nordic region and has about 6,000 employees in Sweden. As part of the agreement, Nobina will be responsible for the acquisition, service and maintenance of the buses used for the assignment. Approximately 1,000 employees will be involved in the assignment and Nobina’s bus fleet for the project will comprise approximately 250 buses where all buses shall be powered by renewable fuel within two years from the commencement of the assignment.
SL was advised by Mannheimer Swartling in connection with the outsourcing/procurement. The firm’s team was led by Martin Pekkari, assisted by, among others, Anna Rundblom and Anna Mirsch. Johan Carle was responsible for matters relating to public procurement and was assisted by, among others, Ola Axelsson and Sven Vaxenbäck. Anette Ivri Nordin handled insurance-related matters.
