SL commissions Bombardier to deliver metro trains to Stockholm
Stockholm County Council has, through Stockholm Public Transport (“SL”), awarded the Bombardier Group an agreement to deliver new trains to the Stockholm metro. The agreement covers a total of 176 new vehicles, 96 vehicles in the initial order and 80 vehicles as an option. The total contract value is estimated at approximately 8.8 billion Swedish kronor.
SL, which is a part of the Stockholm County Council, is tasked to plan, procure, administrate, develop and promote public transport in the County of Stockholm. The procurement of metro trains is part of SL’s red metro line upgrade project which, in addition to the new trains, also encompasses investments in e.g. a new metro depot in Norsborg and a new signalling system to increase the metro’s capacity. The total investment in the metro red line upgrade project is estimated to approximately 12.7 billion Swedish kronor.

SL has been advised by Mannheimer Swartling in the procurement of the new metro trains as well as in other aspects of the red metro line upgrade project. The firm’s team was led by Martin Pekkari (Corporate Commercial and Infrastructure and Construction), assisted primarily by Anders Bergsten and Gustav Lundin (Corporate Commercial). Johan Carle was responsible for public procurement-related issues, assisted primarily by Tomas Kjellgren and Sven Vaxenbäck (Public Procurement). Thomas Pettersson, assisted primarily by Veronica Stiller (Banking and Finance), has advised in banking and finance related issues and Anette Ivri Nordin (Insurance) has advised in insurance related issues.
