Mannheimer Swartling welcomes Chinese scholars in International Commercial Arbitration Law

On 4 December 2012, Mannheimer Swartling hosted a gathering with Chinese students participating in “The Master of International Commercial Arbitration Law programme” (ICAL) at Stockholm University. The three students in the master’s programme are recipients of the “Stockholm Arbitration Scholarships for China” sponsored by Mannheimer Swartling, Gernandt & Danielsson and Vinge. The scholarships are part of the firms’ efforts to promote Sweden’s strong position in international arbitration.

Participants had the opportunity to hear more about the Chinese students’ studies and experiences while in Sweden. In turn, the Swedish participants shared their views on work experiences, which included perspectives from working in Mannheimer Swartling’s offices in Shanghai and Hong Kong. The meeting was also attended by representatives from Stockholm University, the Arbitration Institute of the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce (SCC), Gernandt & Danielsson and Vinge.

The ICAL programme offers an international and comparative study of arbitration from both theoretical and practical perspectives. Every year approximately 30 outstanding young lawyers from different parts of the world participate in the programme led by both academics and leading practitioners.

The scholarships enable three highly qualified Chinese students to participate in the one year programme. Chinese citizens with a Bachelor of Laws degree from a university in China are eligible to apply for the scholarships which cover tuition fees for the academic year.
