European Spallation Source (ESS) granted permit by Environmental Court
European Spallation Source ESS AB has been granted a permit by the Swedish Environmental Court to start construction of the European Spallation Source facility in Lund, Sweden. The decision allows for construction to start before the judgment has gained legal force.
European Spallation Source (ESS) is a large-scale research facility which will include the most powerful neutron source in the world. It is one of the largest science and technology infrastructure projects being built today with a construction cost calculated to approximately EUR 1.8 billion. ESS is a European co-operation with, at present, 17 partner countries, and with Sweden and Denmark as host nations. European Spallation Source ESS AB is a company that has been established for the implementation of the project.
