Mannheimer Swartling publishes a little red book on Chinese business culture

Quotations from a China Practice is written by Thomas Lagerqvist and Ulf Ohrling, both lawyers with years of experience working with leading Nordic companies in the Chinese market. In their book, they share a wealth of knowledge about the Chinese business culture and the art of doing business in China.

The idea for Quotations from a China Practice came from the authors’ insight that much of their work as advisers in China was based on addressing gaps between Western and Chinese cultures. Over the years, they had seen countless examples of how a limited understanding of China’s culture and the country’s business culture had led to missed business opportunities and strained business relationships. In their book, Thomas Lagerqvist and Ulf Ohrling describe the root of these differences and how best to handle them. Quotations from a China Practice deals with different aspects of Chinese culture and business culture.

Understanding these and knowing how to deal with them will lead to better results and success in the Chinese market,” Thomas Lagerqvist, senior counsel at Mannheimer Swartling.

The 162-page book, written in English and divided into 27 chapters of varying length, covers everything from the basic Chinese concepts such as trust, hierarchy, reciprocity and harmony, to China’s views on their role in the world, negotiation skills, setting up companies, and the use of translators and lawyers.

“Our experience tells us that the difference between success and failure in the Chinese market is often about how familiar you are with the major cultural differences, the possibilities you have to deal with them, and when opportune, how also to take advantage of them. This insight has been the foundation for our writing Quotations from a China Practice,” Ulf Ohrling, partner at Mannheimer Swartling.

The book is not available in bookstores but can be purchased directly from Mannheimer Swartling for SEK 250 incl. VAT. To order the book, please contact cel@msa.se
