Emma Olnäs Fors, Partner in the M&A group

I chose business law to gain a deeper understanding of how business works, but also to have the chance to be at the centre of events. I like solving problems and finding ways forward. Law can serve as a tool to achieve this, but law must be accompanied by knowledge of how things interact, and an understanding of what is important and what drives the client and other parties.

I chose to specialise in M&A almost by chance, but due diligence work is the ultimate way to learn about a business or a sector, while also gaining the upper hand in contract negotiations thanks to valuable knowledge acquired.

Every day I feel a great sense of enjoyment and pride in being part of such a capable team.

Another positive dimension of working in the M&A group is the sense of community. I am driven by working in a team with a common goal – a goal we are able to achieve in our clients’ best interests thanks to our specialist knowledge and strong team spirit.

I started out at another law firm, and joined Mannheimer when I moved to Gothenburg. What struck me was the difference in cooperation between the firm’s offices, both in Sweden and abroad. At my previous job contacting lawyers at other offices had been a complicated and bureaucratic process. Here at Mannheimer Swartling it is a trouble-free part of our day-to-day work.

The latest project in which I have been privileged to take part was a major international deal demanding a strong team spirit, specialist expertise in several fields, and lawyers capable of innovative thinking – everything that Mannheimer Swartling stands for. The core team comprised about fifteen lawyers and all our Swedish offices were involved. Every day I feel a great sense of enjoyment and pride in being part of such a capable team.
