Mannheimer Swartling hosts pre-moot to the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot
For the fourth consecutive year, Mannheimer Swartling, in co-operation with Stockholm University, hosted a pre-moot to the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot as law students representing universities from ten countries across Europe converged in Stockholm to compete against each other in a fictive international arbitration case.
At the award ceremony, University of Heidelberg was named Best Team, prevailing over University of Silesia in the final round. Best Individual Advocacy went to Jeff Hermans, King’s College of Law, followed by Brian Kotick, Stockholm University. The coveted Best Colleagues prize – decided by a vote amongst all the teams in the competition – was awarded to Tbilisi State University.
The Mannheimer Swartling Vis Arbitration Pre-Moot, held 16-18 March 2012, commenced with a conference at the Arbitration Institute of the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce (SCC) followed by a welcome reception at Mannheimer Swartling. Rounds of competition were held at the firm throughout the weekend with all the teams arguing their case before arbitral tribunals comprised of, amongst others, Professor Emeritus Jan Ramberg, coaches from the competing teams, and lawyers from Mannheimer Swartling.
The Mannheimer Swartling Vis Arbitration Pre-Moot constitutes an important part of each team’s preparations for the Vis Moot and also offers a unique opportunity for students and professionals in the field of arbitration in Europe to meet and socialize. Participating at this year’s pre-moot were teams from King’s College of Law, Stockholm University, Tbilisi State University, University of Heidelberg, University of Helsinki, University of Lucerne, University of Milan, University of Silesia, University of Tartu, and Utrecht University.
