Mannheimer Swartling advised on Middle East Project Finance Deal of the Year 2009
Mannheimer Swartling has advised Jordan’s Ministry of Water and Irrigation on the USD 1 billion Disi-Mudawarra Project in Jordan that has recently been awarded "Middle East Deal of the Year 2009" by Project Finance Magazine.
The Disi-Mudawarra Project is a public-private partnership (PPP) project where the developer, a joint venture between Turkish company Gama Energy and US company GE Energy Financial Services, will build and operate a 325 km water pipeline, including wellfields, pumps and reservoirs. The project is financed by equity from the developers and loans from the European Investment Bank, Proparco and OPIC (The Overseas Private Investment Corporation, a US Government agency). The Jordanian Ministry of Water and Irrigation, the project client, is providing a USD 300 million grant.
Mannheimer Swartling has acted as counsel to Jordan’s Ministry of Water and Irrigation on procurement, contracts and all other legal matters related to the project, with Johan Granehult and Malin Håkansson of the firm’s Infrastructure and Construction Group handling the instruction.
